Today, let’s talk about brownies, specifically TikTok’s “Anyway, Here’s the Recipe for Brownies” brownies. The recipe emerged from the depths of TikTok comments and had no discernible origin. It is essentially a copypasta, a term used to describe a viral block of text that walks the fine line between spam and meme.
As a brownie lover myself, I was curious to know what these brownies were like and if the recipe itself could prove worthy of its virality, so I had to give it a try. That being said, however, the recipe only included a list of ingredients with measurements, but no instructions.
Unfortunately, Google wasn’t much help. I did find a similar recipe on “All Recipes” that included baking powder and salt (which the TikTok version did not) so I can’t attribute this recipe to anyone besides TikTok commenters.
The good news is that because the ingredients are so basic, the recipe is quite approachable. (Unlike my 100 Hour Brownie recipe. Remember that one!?) Nothing out of the ordinary or complicated here, meaning anyone can whip up a batch at home.
Although I stayed true to TikTok’s version, I decided to use salted butter instead of unsalted because, let’s be real, sweets taste better with a hint of saltiness.
Also, I used Dutch-processed cocoa powder because that’s what I had on hand. Since this recipe doesn’t contain leavening, natural or Dutch-processed is fine because acid isn’t required for any reaction. As expected, the recipe yields……BROWNIES! They are on the cakier side with a subtler chocolate flavor than some recipes, but are definitely worth trying.
